Now this was a cute and loveable book! Told by Hercules, (or Carl-Leopold von Eschersbach as he insists he is called!) with Hercules conversing daily with Mr Beck, the fat, aged cat who is also in residence, it has a distinct charm to it.Carl-Leopold is not a pedigree, as his mother had an affair, so no pedigree, no sale! Abandoned at the Animal Centre, he was pining for the way of life he was used to. Then Caroline came along, and fell for his charms, and suddenly he had a new mistress. Along w [...]

Vollständige Rezi hier: AnjaIsReading | Frauke Scheunemann – Dackelblick.

Two words: Cuteness overload!Aww, this was so so adorable! And not just because of the cover - which I wanted to pet every single second. LOL But the whole story is cute. Herkulus, a sausage dog, tries to find the right man for his mum (mistress or whatever) with his new best friend Herr Beck, a cat. You can imagine how funny this story is. Because somehow Carolin, Herkules' new mum, has a different taste when it comes to man then Herkules. LOLWhat I like about that book is the writing style and [...]

This was a super cute story! I loved the character of Hercules, what an amazing little sausage dog! (Ha ha that's pretty much the reason I picked up this book)I liked how the story had all sorts of unexpected twist and turns. I had no idea how it was going to end.Probably the only issue I had with it was that it finished rather abruptly, but maybe that's just because I wanted to read more about Hercules!

~*~For this review and others, visit the EditorialEyes Blog.~*~2 starsLet’s get this right out of the way: the English cover of Frauke Scheunemann’s Puppy Love is the cutest freaking thing you will ever see. Featuring a tiny puppy staring out with the most soulful “I’m sorry I ate your favourite pair of shoes but you still love me, right?” expression, with a tagline proclaiming “Hercules is a dachshund,” I could not help but pre-order myself a copy. This, coupled with House of Anan [...]

Actually 3.5 stars. This was a romantic contemporary - way out of my usual haunt. But if there's a book with an animal as the narrator and an assurance that they don't die, god knows I'll be reading it. This was also translated from German just to mix it up even more! (way to find one that's out there Emily *pats self on back*)So to the actual review - I absolutely ADORED Hercules' voice. He was snarky and loving and joyful and earnest and plain old adorable. I honestly wish there were more books [...]

What a charming, adorable book! Frauke Scheunemann’s Puppy Love not only has the cutest cover art ever, it also has an utterly adorable (no other word for it!) plot. Fans of Enzo from Garth Stein’s Art of Racing in the Rain or Chance, Shadow and Sassy from Homeward Bound will fall in love with Hercules, or, as he much prefers to be called, Carl-Leopold Von Escherbach. A dachshund who lacks the pedigree for his original, dog breeding family, Hercules is rescued from the animal shelter by Caro [...]

I love dogs and the premise sounded fun. But this book is so impossibly annoying! Right from the start, the puppy is a huge snob, Thomas is a neanderthal written in a very exaggerated manner and Caroline is a complete idiot. I couldn't go past a couple of lines without letting out a loud "blech!" I kept forcing myself to read it, hoping it would get better, but could only make it to page 50 before saying "enough of this!" I really don't understand why this book is so successful. Maybe because I' [...]

This is a first for me. I have read a book narrated by a dog!!! Translated from the German bestseller, 'Puppy Love' by Frauke Scheunemann is a cute, heart-warming story told from Hercules the dachshund's point of view. His efforts to find his mistress a partner are hilarious. There are witty asides about the nature of humans and how he must come to terms with the way humans use irony when they speak if he is to understand them. I loved his relationship with Mr Beck the cat. A fun-filled read. I [...]

Hercules is sent to an animal shelter as he is not the purebred dachshund his family is famous for. He is soon adopted by Caroline , a violin maker. Told by Hercules , the story unfolds of his attempts to understand humans and their relationships. Aided by the cat next door he tries to find a suitable master to go with his lovely mistress . At times I got irritated by Caroline but I loved Hercules ! This is a sweet undemanding book that I really enjoyed -a welcome respite from the psychological [...]

I got this book soley because it had a cute little dachshund puppy on the cover. It was a cute story. Told from the perspective of a dachshund mix who thinks his new owner needs to find the right man, and will do anything to help her find him. Of course his best friend is a cat who knows too much about almost everything. Chaos ensues of course. This was originally written in German but I think the translation does a pretty decent job. very cutely written. Sometimes I had to think about what he is saying because Hercules was describing things like a dog might see them like "little colorful squares with spikes on the side" and it took me quite a while to figure out that he ment stamps! and then the idea of him searching for a new boyfriend for his owner! Just adorable!
