      This was one of my daughter's favorite books and I am looking for another copy of it for my son. The story is about a grandmother who tries in vain to have her family collect wood for the winter. If they don't have wood, the cold will come and they will freeze. One by one they go out and one by one they come back empty handed, each with a story about what happened to them while they were gone. The stories are wild and the grandmother is not impressed.       A harsh winter is coming and a grandmother want just a bit more wood for the fireplace to last through it. She sends everyone from her daughter to her little grandchild to get more and they all return in tatter cloths with a "far-fetched" story. With winter upon them, but no more wood the grandmother figures an equally good use for the torn clothing. Instead of more wood, she makes a quilt to keep them all cozy warm.Illustrations are okay.

      This is a terrific story book. It would be great for teaching how to write a cumulative tale. Plus, it has a terrific twist at the end.
